Which phones can read a Parichy card?
How tapping works
Our cards, standees, keychains and patches contain an NTAG216 NFC chip operating at 13.56 MHz. The chip has no battery: it is powered for a moment by the phone's own NFC reader when the two are held close together. The chip stores a link to your Smart Profile, and the phone opens that link in its browser.
The person you share with doesn't need an app. Whether a particular phone reads the tap depends on the phone and its settings.
iPhone and Android
iPhone
Recent iPhones (iPhone XS and later) can read NFC tags without an app: unlock the phone and hold the top of it near the tag. On older iPhones, use the QR code.
Android
Most Android phones with NFC read tags once NFC is turned on in the phone's settings. Hold the back of the phone against the tag. Where NFC is missing or switched off, use the QR code.
Behaviour can differ between models and software versions, so treat this as a guide rather than a guarantee. If a phone can't read the tap, the QR code always works.
The QR code fallback
Every Smart Profile comes with its own QR code, and our hardware is designed to carry it as a fallback. Point the phone's camera at the code and it opens exactly the same profile as the tap. You can also download the QR code from your dashboard to use on print, packaging or screens.
If a tap doesn't work
Nothing happens when I tap
Check that NFC is switched on and the phone is unlocked. Hold the phone directly against the hardware for a second or two, then move it slightly — the NFC antenna sits in a different place on different phones.
It works on some phones but not others
NFC support and settings vary by phone model and software version. That's why every Smart Profile also has a QR code: any phone camera can scan it and open the same profile.
A thick case or a wallet is in the way
Cases with metal plates or card slots, and other cards stacked behind the tag, can block or confuse the signal. Take the phone out of the case, or tap the hardware on its own.
The tap opens the wrong thing
Your card opens whatever your Smart Profile is set to. Check your profile in the dashboard — updates apply the next time someone opens it, and the card itself never needs changing.
